The walled city can be crossed in about an hour. The rampart walk works in either direction and looks completely different depending on the tide: at low tide you can walk down onto the sand toward Grand Bé, at high tide the waves break right over the Bon-Secours dyke.
Enter through the Porte Saint-Vincent, walk up Rue Broussais to the cathedral, then exit near Bon-Secours for the open-air sea pool. The inner streets are almost entirely cobbled: strollers with small wheels struggle.

Good to know
- The Paul Féval car park, just outside the walls, is by far the easiest; inside the walls parking is hopeless in summer.
- Check the tide times before you go: the town looks completely different six hours apart.
- The ramparts are free and open to walk until nightfall.
